Introduction
Schneider Electric's Spacial range offers enclosures (SF cubicles and S3D boxes)
certified for installation in seismic risk zones of various intensities. The zones used to
classify the enclosures are those defined by the Uniform Building Code (UBC).

UBC zones
The UBC has defined 6 zones (0, 1, 2A, 2B, 3, 4, 5) according to ground
acceleration. The illustration below, taken from IEC 60721-2-6 (Figure 5), uses the
zones defined by the UBC, combining, for greater clarity, zones 2A and 2B in zone 2.

Certification of Spacial enclosures
The tests used for certification are those specified by the international standard
and adapted for the requirements of nuclear industry. The reference documents
are as follows:

M12D0168610 (EDF): Earthquake resistance tests specified for the nuclear
industry. This document is the update of document CRT 91-C-112-00 produced
following the Fukushima accident

IEC 60068-3-3 (first edition): international standard.

Enclosures for weak to medium earthquakes:
The standard offer of SF cubicles and S3D* boxes is certified to withstand all seismic
risks up to UBC zone 3 for the following applications:

SF cubicle applications:
-- Control and automation;
-- Industrial electronics (19" frame);
-- LV power distribution (Spacial SFP).

S3D box applications:
-- Control and automation.

Enclosures for medium to strong earthquakes:
The Spacial SF 5G cubicle is certified to withstand any seismic risk up to UBC zone 4
thanks to its reinforced structure, its special panel mounting system and its locking
system. It has been tested for the following applications:

Industrial electronics (19" frame);
v
v
LV power distribution (Spacial SFP 5G).

Enclosures for very strong earthquakes:
The Spacial SF S3D 6G cubicle is certified to withstand any seismic risk up to UBC
zone 4 thanks to its panel thickness, its locking system, its wall mounting brackets
and its reinforced chassis mounting. It has been tested for the following application:
